Product overview

Nordicode Terrain Tools

Nordicode Terrain Tools is a planned Unreal-native terrain authoring toolset for terrain and worldbuilding workflows inside Unreal Engine.

Product vision / planned. Terrain Tools is currently in product planning; the workflows documented here are intended direction, not shipped functionality.

What Terrain Tools is

Terrain Tools is planned around editor tooling, viewport brush interaction, native layer/edit output, roads, settlements, terrain shaping, process layers, terrain masks, and worldbuilding support.

The direction is to make terrain authoring sharper, faster, and easier to control while keeping creators inside Unreal Engine.

Core workflow

The planned core workflow is direct: stay inside Unreal, shape terrain in the viewport, use specialized tools, write results to native layer/edit output, and keep the terrain editable through Unreal-native workflows.

  • Planned viewport brush authoring.
  • Planned specialized tools for roads, settlements, flattening, valleys, rivers, cliffs, and masks.
  • Planned native layer/edit output, including Landscape workflow direction.
  • A direction that reduces external heightmap export and reimport loops.
  • Editable terrain workflows where practical.

Landscape foundation

Landscape workflows are one intended native authoring path. Terrain Tools remains a focused toolset direction rather than a replacement for Unreal Landscape.

Future support

Terrain data can become a foundation for material masks and PCG-assisted world dressing. PCG is documented as a future support layer for vegetation, rocks, ground clutter, and mask-driven dressing, not as the core terrain generation product.
